Great Get Together

The organisers of the Great Get Together in Blackshaw Head kindly invited the refugees and asylum seekers from Together We Grow to be part of the events on 17-18th June. Although it was during Ramadan – the Muslim month of fasting – some of them came both days.

On the Saturday they came first to get snacks and drinks, play games in a garden before going to the village picnic. A refugee family had made Sri Lankan food – to be shared along all the other food provided. A Palestinian family had also made food. They also got some food, mint and strawberry plants to take home.

On Sunday they came for the event at Colden J&I School, where there were games, drinks and food, a fire engine, etc – followed by the duck race at 4pm and drinks and cakes at the Chapel afterwards.

Many thanks to the organisers of these events and for making the asylum seekers and refugees feel welcome in the community.

This coming Wednesday we have the walking group meeting in Hebden Bridge – to do walks in the Upper Calder Valley. At the last walk they went to Gibson Mill.

On Thursday we will be taking clothes, shoes and toys to the refugees in Rochdale. There are a thousand asylum seekers and refugees living in Rochdale. Many thanks to everyone who donated these items, particular thanks to Nikki and Louise for their ongoing donations
