Still time to vote

Many thanks for the 270 votes we have received so far in the Aviva Community Fund competition. It is not too late to vote yet and with over 500 prizes on offer of a minimum of £1000 there is a good chance of winning. If you have not voted yet there is still time to do so.
If you are not sure what we are doing below are some examples.
On Monday our regular walking group for the refugees and asylum seekers met and next month it will have a special event to celebrate that the walking group has now existed for a year – with a growing attendance.
We have also started an allotment group at Red Acre in Mytholmroyd that tends to meet every Saturday. The refugees have just been donated a shed, wellies, etc for this.
Tomorrow we will be helping Calderdale Freedom From Torture at a fundraising party at the Birchcliffe Centre in Hebden Bridge to raise funds for Survivors of Torture Activities Fund (6.30-10pm). We are working together to offer to pay for leisure activities for asylum seekers and refugees – like membership of sports or drama clubs, music or singing groups, yoga or art classes, etc – including paying for any equipment needed for this, transport and babysitting. You can also support this work by casting up to ten votes for Together We Grow here: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/vot…/project/view/17-20. It is free and easy to vote. We regularly take refugees and asylum seekers to see cultural events – like tomorrow evening some of them want to see a Palestinian film in Halifax.
On 18th November we will take refugees and asylum seekers to the Central Jamia Mosque in Halifax, where there will be speakers on Islam and a refugee will speak about an interfaith group she is active in. We will then go to a hotel that has offered a free lunch to all of us before we go to Halifax Minster to hear about Church of England, the Methodist Church and from a non-religious humanist. (The Buddhists are not able to come that day and we have not found a Jewish speaker). This trip is part of Interfaith Week.
On Sunday 10th December at 5pm we have a fundraising concert with the Cantorelli choir at Blackshaw Head Methodist Church and in February we will have a fundraising dinner at the Olive Branch in Hebden Bridge. Refugees and asylum seekers will be in Hebden Bridge that day and invited to the concert.
