Four members of our management committee went to the first meeting of Rochdale Refugee Forum yesterday. The forum is for all the organisations that come in contact and deliver services for the refugees and asylum seekers. So it includes MIND, Red Cross, the local council, NHS, arts groups and various community groups. Absent was SERCO – the agency that finds accommodation for asylum seekers on behalf of the government.
All the organisations present explained what they are offering for refugees and asylum seekers. The next meeting will discuss what events could be organised for the national refugee week.
