Red Acre Allotment

We had 46 refugees and asylum seekers spending on 21st July at Red Acre Allotments in Mytholmroyd. A walk around the site was led by one of the allotment holders and we saw the area where refugees and asylum seekers can grow vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers.
Pizza were made in the pizza oven on the site and juice, coffee and tea were served. Some of the children went off to play football before we all met at St Michael’s Hall to a fantastic lunch prepared by some of our ten volunteers.
Clothes, plates, etc were displayed in the hall for people to take what they wanted. Surplus food could also be taken home.
Many thanks to the Blue Teapot café for giving us vegetables, to Frances for organising the day so well and to do the shopping with Heather, to St Michael’s for letting us use the hall, kitchen, toilets, etc and to Red Acre Allotments for inviting us back a second time.
Luckily, the planned train strike for yesterday was cancelled and the we did not get any rain. A very successful day.
