Refugee week lunch
To celebrate Refugee week (June 15th – 21st) Leila’s Kitchen, owned by Leila and Sourena, and Together We Grow are holding a Fundraising Takeaway on Monday June 15th pick up between 11.00 am – 3.00 pm, 2 courses for £10.00
Please order by Wednesday June 10th and join us!
We can’t arrange a fundraising shared meal during these times but we hope you will share your takeaway with someone!
Leila learnt traditional cooking from her grandmother in Iran and is passionate about food. Leila who immigrated to the UK 12 years ago always dreamed of having her own coffee shop where she could change perceptions about vegetarian and vegan food. Leila’s Kitchen was established in Autumn 2019, a heaven for vegetarians and vegans whilst so many non-vegetarian/vegan customers also pay regular visits. Leila’s kitchen aims to be more than a café and for some customers is becoming their 2nd home!
Sourena (Leila’s husband) worked for a law firm in Leeds and last year following a ‘mid-life crisis’ joined Leila to put a smile on people’s faces by giving them delicious cakes and food. The first 6 months have not been easy with the floods and now the virus but hopefully the future will become easier
Together We Grow is a local voluntary organisation which aims to promote the social and emotional wellbeing of asylum seekers and refugees by welcoming them into our community.
MENU (2 courses: choose starter / main or main / dessert)
Starters:
Dolme x 4 (vine leaves stuffed with herbs and rice, topped with Persian Barberries) or
Spinach Bourani (yogurt mixed with spinach & touch of garlic, served with pitta bread)
Mains:
Ghormeh Sabzi (mixture of sauteed
herbs, consisting mainly of parsley
and coriander
, marinated quorn, seasoned with the key spice of dried l
emon served with Persian rice) or
Sweet potato dhal (sweet potato, coconut milk, red lentil, served with Persian rice)
Desserts:
Pasta de nata (Portuguese tart) or
Pistachio & raspberry Bakewell
