A group of people from Together We Grow and Calderdale Freedom From Torture went to the launch of Calderdale Valley of Sanctuary -https://www.facebook.com/CalderdaleValleyofSanctuary/
At the event the coordinator of St Augustine Centre, the leader of Calderdale Council, the local MP and the Square Chapel spoke in support of the initiative. The mayor was also present.
There is an open meeting on Wednesday 19th October 5-7pm at the Orange Box in Halifax to start planning future activities.
The launch was followed by the ‘Tanja’ play – a powerful performance by four young people about female asylum seekers in immigration detention centres. There is no time limit on how long they can be kept there – while alleged terrorist can only be kept for up to 28 days in detention.
