Pottery workshop by Great Rock

On 12th March we had 32 asylum seekers coming – about half of them children. First we all went to Tim and Michelle’s house where there were a variety of activities. One of these were working with clay, either on a potter’s wheel or on a table. Thanks to John, Bardy, Pat and John for organising the clay activities.

Many from the group walked to the Great Rock and climbed it. Some of the adults made sweets for the asylum seekers to take home. The smaller children played with a train set.

Many thanks to Michelle and Tim for hosting us all and thanks to all the drivers for taking every one from the train station to Blackshaw Head and back.

We then all went to Laura and Finn’s house to have lunch, play football and select clothes, shoes, beans, furniture, etc for the asylum seekers to keep. We managed to distribute 250 tins of beans but still have 150 left.

Someone’s house needed to be emptied this week and the owners kindly offered most of the furniture to the asylum seekers. Someone else had a settee and an armchair to give away.

So this weeks we have had deliveries of furniture, clothes and beans to the asylum seekers: two trips on Sunday, one trip on Tuesday, three trips today and two tomorrow plus some next week. All the furniture has now been given away.
