Asylum seekers helped local residents at the community orchard on 11th June. Grass was removed around the fruit bushes and the bushes at the windbreak. The summerhouse has been used several times by the asylum seekers for arts and craft activities and making bird boxes. The second hand summerhouse was donated to Together We Grow by Jacob’s Garden. We had a cooking class on 16th April with four asylum seekers teaching local people some of their recipes. Many thanks to Tim & Michelle for hosting the session in their house and generally helping out on the day.
On 16-4 some of the asylum seekers helped filling over a hundred bags with woodchip and took them to the community orchard in Blackshaw Head where the woodchip will be used as mulching around the fruit trees and bushes.
On 16th April 34 asylum seekers came to Heptonstall Social and Bowling Club. Some of the children made lanterns and paper cuttings while others played football and visited the play area. Getting shoes, clothes, toys, duvets, etc ready for the asylum seekers to take home when they come on 12th March. The winter jackets and the booths in particular will be needed this winter.
